Themes and appearance

Superconductor separates app-wide appearance from per-workspace color. Pick one global mode, then tint each workspace independently so personal, work, and client contexts stay visually distinct.

Set the app to System, Light, or Dark from Settings. System follows the macOS appearance and switches when the OS does. Light and Dark lock the app to that mode.

Mode changes apply live across the app and every open workspace.

Each workspace carries its own chrome and accent color, stored independently for light and dark mode. The same workspace can show a teal tint in dark mode and a warm orange tint in light mode.

  • Chrome color tints the sidebar, panel borders, and surrounding frame.
  • Accent color tints tabs, links, command-key affordances, and the active workspace marker.
  • Accent style controls how the accent highlights interactive surfaces.

Hue, saturation, and lightness are continuous, not a fixed palette. Pick any color from the workspace color controls. Superconductor applies the change live.

Two sliders fine-tune the chrome treatment:

  • Background transparency sets how much of the desktop or window behind shows through the workspace chrome.
  • Tint intensity controls how strongly the workspace color saturates the chrome.

Lower transparency and lower tint intensity produce a quieter chrome; higher values push the workspace identity forward.

Set three font families globally:

  • Display font — UI labels, headings, and chat copy.
  • Mono font — code blocks, the diff view, and inline code in chat.
  • Terminal font — the terminal pane.

Superconductor ships sensible defaults for the mono and terminal fonts and falls back to the system font when the display font is unset. Choose any installed font from Settings.

Surface-specific size controls let you tune individual areas without resizing the whole app:

  • App scale — overall UI density.
  • Chat content scale — only the chat message body.
  • Editor and diff font size — code in the editor and diff views.
  • Terminal tab font size — the main terminal pane.
  • Sidebar terminal font size — terminals docked in the sidebar.

When text feels cramped on one surface, adjust that surface first. Reach for app scale only when every surface needs to grow.

Theme, color, transparency, font, and size changes apply immediately. No restart, no reload. Switch workspaces and the chrome retints to match the new context.
