Privacy Policy

super.engineering uses a local-first architecture to minimize data collection and retention. Prompts, source code, files, conversations, and model outputs stay on your device. super.engineering does not transmit or store them.

Information We Collect

Desktop Application

The super.engineering desktop application does not require user accounts.

We do not collect or store:

  • Prompts
  • Source code
  • Files
  • Conversations
  • Model responses
  • API keys
  • Customer content

The desktop application collects anonymous product telemetry so we can improve reliability, performance, and product quality. You can opt out at any time in Settings → Privacy by turning off Share anonymous usage data.

Turning telemetry off stops collection, suppresses queued telemetry, and deletes the local session-state file without sending a final opt-out event. Your random installation ID (UUID) remains on your device and is reused with a fresh session if you re-enable telemetry, allowing usage before and after opting out to be associated with the same installation. Activity while telemetry is disabled is not collected or reported later.

Release builds contact our release server hourly to check for updates. The first check of each day includes an anonymous marker used to count active installs in aggregate. These requests contain no identifier, no customer content, and no per-install data is stored. Because they contain nothing personal to opt out of, they are independent of the telemetry setting.

This telemetry may include:

  • Application version
  • Operating system version
  • Feature usage
  • Performance metrics
  • Crash diagnostics

Anonymous telemetry does not include prompts, source code, files, conversations, model responses, API keys, or other customer content.

Website

Our website uses PostHog for optional website analytics. PostHog analytics do not load until you accept analytics.

When enabled, this information may include:

  • Page views
  • Browser and device information
  • Referring pages
  • General website usage statistics
  • Session recordings of your visit, such as the pages you view, where you click and scroll, and technical logs from the page
  • Heatmaps that combine where visitors click and scroll

We use this information to understand website usage and improve the website experience.

Session recordings and heatmaps are used only on this website. The desktop application never records your sessions. Text you type into form fields is masked in recordings, and recordings are deleted after 30 days.

On the sponsorship page, it can also include the amount and frequency you choose and whether you returned from checkout. Your payment details are never sent to PostHog; payment is handled by Stripe alone.

If you have accepted analytics and then give us your email address, by asking for the download link or by sponsoring us, we connect your website analytics, including session recordings, to that address. This shows us how the people who ask for the app or sponsor us found and used the website. If you haven’t accepted analytics, your email address is never connected to your browsing.

Download Link Emails

If you visit on a device that cannot run super.engineering, you can ask us to email you the download link. We send that request to PostHog, which stores your email address with a record that you asked for the link and sends the email. This happens whether or not you accept analytics, because you asked for it.

We use your email address to send you the link and, if you have accepted analytics, to connect your website analytics as described above. We may also email you now and then about super.engineering, such as a new release. Every one of those emails has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing stops them for good.

On Windows or Linux, the same form instead asks us to email you when super.engineering is available there. We record which platform you asked about, and use your address for that announcement, for the occasional updates described above, and, if you have accepted analytics, to connect your website analytics as described above.

To keep the form from being used to send email to people who never asked for it, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that a person, not a script, is sending the request. It looks at signals from your browser and your IP address. We also look up the domain of your email address to confirm it can receive mail.

Sponsorships

If you choose to sponsor us, payment is handled entirely by Stripe on Stripe’s own hosted checkout page. Your card number never reaches our servers, and we do not receive or store it.

Stripe collects the details it needs to take the payment, which include your email address, your payment method, and, for a monthly sponsorship, the records required to bill it again. Stripe processes that information as an independent controller under its own privacy policy.

When you return from checkout, we ask Stripe about that one session so we can show you a receipt. Stripe tells us:

  • The amount and currency
  • Whether the sponsorship was one-time or monthly
  • Whether the payment succeeded
  • The name on the payment, so the thank-you page can use your first name
  • The email address you paid with

We read those details to render the page and we do not write them to a database. The one exception is your email address: if you had accepted analytics before checkout, we pass Stripe your browser’s anonymous analytics ID with the checkout, and when you return we send PostHog that ID and your email address to connect your website analytics to it, as described under Website. Without that consent, your email address goes nowhere. We have no sponsor accounts and no billing records of our own. If you email us about a sponsorship, we will have your message and whatever we can look up in Stripe.

AI Providers

super.engineering allows you to connect AI providers of your choice.

Your device sends requests directly to the AI provider you configure. super.engineering does not proxy, inspect, store, or retain your prompts, source code, files, conversations, or model responses.

The handling of your data by an AI provider is governed by that provider's own privacy policy and terms.

Data Storage

super.engineering does not store customer prompts, source code, files, conversations, or model outputs.

We process anonymous desktop telemetry, consented website analytics, and email addresses you give us for the download link or that you sponsor with through our PostHog instance hosted in the United States.

Data Security

Customer content stays on your device.

The application encrypts network communications using industry-standard TLS.

Data Retention

Because super.engineering does not store customer content, we cannot retrieve, access, or disclose your prompts, source code, files, conversations, or model outputs.

We retain anonymous telemetry and consented website analytics only as long as necessary to operate, maintain, and improve the product.

We keep an email address you gave us through the download form until you ask us to delete it.

Third-Party Services

super.engineering currently uses:

  • PostHog for anonymous product telemetry, optional website analytics, and download link emails.
  • Cloudflare for website and release hosting, update delivery, aggregate install counts, and checking that download link requests come from a person.
  • Stripe for sponsorship payments, if you choose to sponsor us.

Users may connect third-party AI providers directly from the desktop application. Those providers operate independently of super.engineering and are responsible for their own privacy and security practices.

International Users

Super Dot Engineering LLC and its service providers process anonymous telemetry, consented website analytics, download link emails, and the email addresses of consenting sponsors in the United States. If you access the service from another country, information may be processed in a country with different data-protection laws.

Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of personal information. You may also withdraw consent for optional analytics and complain to your local data-protection authority.

Email humans@super.engineering to make a request. We may need to verify your identity and may retain information where required by law.

We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Website Analytics and Cookies

PostHog analytics, including session recordings and heatmaps, are optional and do not load until you accept analytics. You can decline without losing access to the website.

Use the “Cookies” link in the site footer to change your choice. Withdrawing consent stops future analytics collection on this browser.

Children's Privacy

super.engineering is not intended for use by children under the age of 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the Last updated date at the bottom of this page.
